Angry members of the Nhlalakahle Trust shut down Kusile Primary School on Tuesday, 17 March, protesting what they describe as the government’s ongoing failure to build a proper school for the community.

Learners have reportedly been attending classes in unsafe and structurally unsound conditions, raising serious concerns about their safety and well-being. Community members say the situation has persisted for years without meaningful intervention.

Frustrated parents and residents gathered outside the school gates, demanding immediate action and a long-term solution to the ongoing infrastructure crisis. They insist that learners deserve a safe and dignified environment in which to learn.

Thapelo Ngele, regional chairperson of ActionSA in Ehlanzeni, visited the area to assess the situation and engage directly with affected residents.

Community members expressed anger and disappointment during the visit, calling on authorities to urgently address their concerns and prioritise the construction of a proper school facility.

The protest highlights growing frustration over poor infrastructure in rural schools, with residents warning that they will continue their action until decisive steps are taken.
