Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt after a couple was shot and killed inside their home in Chochocho village under the Masoyi policing precinct in the early hours of Sunday, 15 March. 

According to reports, officers have opened a double murder case following the fatal shooting on 15 March 2026.

Police said a 45-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were asleep in their house when unknown suspects allegedly forced entry and opened fire on them. Both victims were declared dead at the scene.

The victims have since been identified by family members as Masotja Ngomane (45) and Mpumi Shongwe (35).

The incident occurred in Chochocho near Hazyview. Family members confirmed that both victims were shot in the chest during the attack. Their cellphones were also reportedly taken by the perpetrators.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the killings.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation or help locate the suspects to contact their nearest police station or call the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111. Information can also be submitted anonymously through the MySAPS App.
