Bushbuckridge’s very own Leon Dibakoane (24), from Violet Bank, is set to take centre stage as a praise poet at the State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Leon will perform ahead of Mpumalanga’s First Citizen, Mandla Ndlovu, delivering a heartfelt tribute before the premier outlines the government’s priorities for the year.

A Royal Praise Singer born and raised in Bushbuckridge, Leon discovered his talent for praise singing at just 11 years old. Since then, his journey has been one of honouring tradition and celebrating his people’s rich heritage.

Over the years, he has shared his voice at many important cultural and traditional events, including:

• The inauguration of Hosi Andrew Nxumalo of Gidjana Traditional Council, Malamulele, Limpopo – 1 September 2024

• A courtesy visit of Hosi Matsila at Matsila Village – 24 September 2023

• Ummemo Cultural Day at Amashangana Traditional Authority, Bushbuckridge – 14 December 2024

• The opening of the Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders – 6 May 2025

• A courtesy visit by Minister of Public Administration and Service, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, on Nelson Mandela Day at Amashangana Traditional Authority – 24 July 2025

Leon is no stranger to the spotlight as he has also performed for Hosi Nkulu Abednego Nxumalo, members of the Royal Family, the Amashangana Traditional Council, and Kgoshi L.M. Mokoena. Each performance, he says, is more than just a song—it is a way to celebrate community, strengthen cultural ties, and carry forward the pride of his people.

Now, at the SOPA, Leon will bring that same spirit to one of the province’s most significant political stages, ensuring that tradition, culture, and pride are heard loud and clear.
