Four suspects have been arrested following a violent attempted murder and business robbery at a local tavern in Extension 22, Embalenhle.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 16 February 2026, at around 00:04. Police say the suspects arrived at the tavern at closing time and demanded money from the owner. When he refused, he was shot in the thigh, forced behind the counter and shot again after telling the suspects there was no more money. Patrons inside the tavern were also robbed of their cellphones before the suspects fled the scene.

Acting on intelligence, police carried out operations in the area and traced information to a nearby address where a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car was seen. One suspect was found at the house and a firearm was recovered during a search, leading to his arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He then provided information on the whereabouts of the other suspects.

Police later intercepted the vehicle in the area and found a revolver in the driver’s possession. One suspect managed to flee during the stop. Further investigations led officers to a traditional healer allegedly linked to the suspects. A search of the healer’s hut uncovered a revolver and a rifle, resulting in another arrest.

In total, four suspects have been arrested and face charges of attempted murder, business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms. The vehicle believed to have been used in the crime has been seized.

Investigations are ongoing.
