Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has affirmed that South Africa is making steady progress in reforming its electricity sector, as the country intensifies efforts to stabilise and modernise the energy system.

Speaking outside Cape Town City Hall, just hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address, Ramokgopa said the transformation process is gaining momentum. He highlighted improvements in grid access as well as ongoing structural reforms within the electricity industry as key indicators of positive change.

The Minister also revealed that businesses have been invited to actively contribute ideas and proposals to help shape new electricity frameworks. This inclusive approach, he said, is aimed at ensuring that reforms are practical, sustainable and responsive to the needs of both the economy and communities.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen collaboration between government and the private sector in reshaping South Africa’s energy landscape. Through these partnerships, government hopes to accelerate reform, improve energy security and create a more resilient electricity sector that can support economic growth and development across the country.
