Police in Mpumalanga have arrested two suspects following the recovery of an unlicensed firearm in the Timbavati Trust area of Acornhoek.

The arrests were made on Monday, 26 January 2026, after police received a tip-off about a suspect allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm. While conducting patrols, officers identified a suspect matching the description provided by the informant.

Further investigation led police to a parked taxi, where a search was carried out. During the search, a firearm was discovered inside the vehicle and confiscated. The taxi driver was also arrested in connection with the incident.

Both suspects have been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and were expected to appear before the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, reiterated that the recovery of illegal firearms remains a priority, as such weapons are often used in serious and violent crimes. He also urged community members to continue working with police by reporting criminal activities.
