Police in Mpumalanga have arrested several suspects for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles and a motorcycle during operations conducted along the N4 between 8 and 11 January 2026.

In the first incident, SAPS members from Waterval Boven were conducting routine patrols along the N4 between Machado Toll Plaza and Waterval Boven on 11 January at about 14:00. Police received information about a taxi with Mozambican registration plates allegedly transporting a stolen motorcycle.

Officers stopped a white Toyota Quantum matching the description and conducted a search. Inside the trailer, police found stripped Big Boy motorcycle parts concealed beneath bags of potatoes, with additional parts hidden in a black container. The vehicle was occupied by two male suspects.

The suspects, identified as Sitefane Hani Zimba (29) and Jeofris Jorge Nhuvunga (25), both Mozambican nationals, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen in Protea Glen, Soweto, and was allegedly being transported to Mozambique.

They appeared before the Belfast Periodical Court on 12 January 2026, where the case was postponed to 28 January 2026 for legal aid applications. Both suspects were remanded in custody.

In a separate incident on 10 January 2026, a multidisciplinary team comprising the Middelburg Flying Squad, Machadodorp Community Policing Forum and a tracking company intercepted a Toyota Fortuner reported stolen in Wierdabrug, Centurion.

The vehicle was traced along the R540 road, leading to a chase that ended at Madala location in Belfast. The vehicle was confirmed as stolen, and the driver was arrested.

The suspect, Murendeni Nekhubvi (30), appeared before the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on 12 January 2026 and was granted bail of R5,000. He is due to appear again in court on 2 February 2026.
