Matikwana Hospital in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, together with Mmamethlake Hospital in the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality and several other healthcare facilities across Mpumalanga, marked World AIDS Day on 1 December 2025 with a series of awareness activities.
The observance formed part of the provincial build-up campaign aimed at strengthening public understanding of HIV/AIDS and showing solidarity with those living with or affected by the condition. It also served as a moment to remember the many lives lost to the disease.
Throughout the day, patients received not only routine healthcare services but also essential health education focused on prevention, treatment adherence and overall well-being. Ambassadors living with HIV shared personal experiences and words of encouragement, urging community members to prioritise their health by going for regular check-ups at their nearest clinics and hospitals.
Healthcare workers emphasised that early testing, consistent treatment and community support remain key to reducing new infections and improving the quality of life for those living with HIV.
