As the festive season intensifies, law-enforcement efforts in the Gert Sibande District have yielded significant results, with eleven suspects arrested during a targeted operation in Embalenhle on Friday, 28 November 2025.
The arrests formed part of Operation Safer Festive Season, which aims to curb crime and enhance community safety across Mpumalanga. The suspects, aged between 21 and 62, face a range of charges. These include stock theft involving two suspects from Limpopo, assault on a police officer, possession of a dangerous weapon and reckless and negligent driving. A further seven individuals were detained for contravening the Immigration Act.
During the operation, officers also issued 18 fines — 16 for contraventions of the Mpumalanga Liquor Act 5 of 2006, and two in terms of the Road Traffic Act.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Ermelo and Embalenhle Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 1 December 2025.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the dedication of the teams involved, noting that the results reflect strong commitment to safer festive season operations for 2025/2026.
