A 30-year-old man has been arrested following a daring hijacking and robbery of a cigarette delivery van on the Sabie–White River road on Tuesday morning, 18 November 2025.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 08:30 when the victims were travelling in a white Haval delivery van. A white Kia allegedly overtook them before abruptly stopping in front of their vehicle. Two armed men – one carrying a pistol and the other a rifle – stepped out and threatened the victims at gunpoint.

The victims were forced out of their vehicle and into the Kia, after which they were driven deep into a nearby plantation. Once inside the plantation, the suspects ordered them to run and not look back. The shaken victims later found workers in the area and borrowed a phone to call for assistance.

Car-tracking services and the Flying Squad were activated immediately. The stolen Haval was later recovered along the Sabie–White River road. Officers followed fresh tyre tracks leading into the plantation where they discovered a Toyota Quantum loaded with stolen cigarette stock — 28 boxes valued at approximately R500 000.

Police arrested one suspect at the scene, while the remaining individuals fled and are still being sought.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 November 2025, facing charges of hijacking and robbery.
