The GRIP (Gender-Based Violence Response) Head Office in Mbombela was broken into during the night of 19 November 2025, with the full extent of the theft and damage still being assessed.

According to GRIP Chief Executive Officer, Tarryn Leigh Lokotsch, the incident left the premises in disarray.

“We had a break-in during the night at our Head Office. The front door was smashed, and they managed to fiddle and get our security gate open. They went through all of our drawers and made a real mess,” she said.

Several items were stolen, including dignity care pack supplies, office consumables, laptop chargers and the organisation’s Wi-Fi router — all heartfelt donations used to support survivors of gender-based violence. Lokotsch expressed deep concern over the loss, noting that these resources are vital to GRIP’s work and community outreach.

Police confirmed that one suspect was arrested in the early hours of the morning, while two others remain at large.

GRIP has urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any information that may assist in locating the outstanding suspects. Despite the setback, the organisation continues its efforts to provide essential services to vulnerable community members.
