Operation Shanela II has once again demonstrated its effectiveness in combating crime and promoting safety across Mpumalanga. Conducted between 6 and 9 November 2025, the operation brought together several law enforcement and government departments working collaboratively to maintain law and order.

According to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner, the multi-agency initiative included members from the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Traffic, Home Affairs, Health, Emergency Medical Services, and various community safety structures.

A total of 142 SAPS officers were deployed, supported by 59 Home Affairs officials, 17 Department of Health workers, and 110 private security personnel, among others. Their combined efforts led to hundreds of searches, arrests, and the recovery of illegal goods.

During the operation, 4 419 people and 1 443 vehicles were searched, while 168 stop-and-search operations and 10 roadblocks were conducted. Police also inspected 40 liquor outlets, 11 second-hand dealers, and several scrapyards and farms to ensure legal compliance.

Officers arrested suspects for a range of offences, including five for murder, one for attempted murder, one for rape, 15 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and 10 for driving under the influence. In addition, 67 people were arrested for possession of counterfeit goods and 26 for contravening the Second-Hand Goods Act.
