SD Mabaya Bows Out of Ximhungwe League
In a significant turn for local football, SD Mabaya Football Club has announced that it will not be participating in the Ximhungwe County Football Association or its league for the 2025/26 season.
While stepping back from the competition marks the end of an era, the club remains steadfast in its commitment to football development and community engagement. SD Mabaya has confirmed that it will continue to exist and participate in other local matches while exploring new avenues for growth and expansion.
For many years, SD Mabaya has been more than just a football team — it has been a cornerstone of community sport and a symbol of passion and perseverance. Notably, it was the first team in the region to introduce a ladies’ side, SD Mabaya Queens FC, which produced talented players now competing in top national leagues.
The club’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Sipho Dzimba, expressed gratitude to the players, sponsors, supporters, and partners for their unwavering loyalty and contribution to the club’s journey. “We look forward to reconnecting with the technical team, players, and other local stakeholders again,” said the executive.
In the words of the club’s leadership, quoting a Tsonga saying, “Ndlela yaha lehile, hita hlangana emahlweni” — “the road is still very long, and we shall meet again.”
This decision forms part of a broader strategy to reposition the SD Mabaya brand for future prospects. The executive committee remains confident that this step will open new doors for growth and greater achievements.
“As we embark on this new chapter, we encourage positivity and remain hopeful about the future. Tihosi4Life, Together We Rise!” the statement concluded
