Police in Mpumalanga are investigating two separate incidents of gender-based violence (GBV) that claimed the lives of two women in Masoyi and Vosman over the weekend.

The first incident occurred on Monday morning, 27 October 2025, at Jerusalem Trust in Masoyi, near a tavern. Police were alerted after a 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her 26-year-old male partner. Officers found the victim lying on the front lawn of the suspect’s home with multiple stab wounds to her neck. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) declared her dead at the scene.

According to police, the suspect’s father reported that his son had stabbed his girlfriend during a domestic dispute and was hiding in a locked room. Officers forced entry, apprehended the injured suspect, and took him to hospital under police guard. He is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of murder.

In a separate case on Sunday evening, 26 October 2025, police were called to a domestic violence complaint in Vosman. Upon arrival, they found the body of a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest in a back room occupied by a tenant. A man, believed to be her partner, was discovered on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was found beside him. Paramedics confirmed both were deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the man shot the woman before turning the gun on himself.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the murders, urging community members to seek professional or community support when facing domestic difficulties rather than resorting to violence.

“These tragedies are a reminder that violence is never a solution. We appeal to communities to speak out and seek help before situations escalate,” he said.

Police have opened cases of murder in both matters, with an additional inquest docket in the Vosman case.
