Sisonke gender justice community engagement
Sisonke Gender Justice is making a powerful impact across the Bushbuckridge Municipality by empowering women and the wider community to take a stand against gender-based violence (GBV) and to promote gender equality.
The organisation hosts regular community dialogues that provide safe spaces for residents to share their experiences, concerns and ideas on how to address GBV. These gatherings encourage open discussions, strengthen unity and help communities to create practical solutions to the challenges they face.
After the dialogues, Sisonke compiles the information and presents it to the municipality. This process highlights the existing gaps in service delivery and policy implementation, ensuring that GBV issues are not only heard but also acted upon at the local government level.
Beyond raising awareness, Sisonke also supports survivors of GBV by offering case monitoring. The team works closely with the National Prosecuting Authority, tracks case progress, and accompanies victims to court. This commitment ensures that survivors are not left to navigate the justice system alone, while also holding institutions accountable for proper handling of cases.
Through its dedicated efforts, Sisonke Gender Justice continues to bring the Bushbuckridge community together in the fight against GBV, fostering resilience, support and hope for a safer society.
