The Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Lindi Lettie Masina, paid a special visit to Makhosana Manzini High School on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, to congratulate the school on its 30 years of excellence and to motivate the matric class of 2025 as they began their final examinations.

The school, officially opened in 1995 and named after the late Alfred Makhosana Manzini, celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday, 18 October 2025. Over the years, it has built a solid reputation for outstanding academic performance and community impact.

This year, the school achieved an impressive 84% pass rate in the trial exams, an improvement from last year. Out of 250 matric learners sitting for the final examinations, 43 learners who are struggling have been placed in special programmes to ensure they perform well in the finals.

Makhosana Manzini High currently accommodates 1,973 learners with 59 teachers, resulting in overcrowded classrooms — the smallest holding 55 learners and the largest 112. Despite these challenges, the school continues to top the district’s performance charts, attracting partnerships and sponsorships that support its mission of excellence.

The MEC’s visit had originally been planned to coincide with that of G20 officials, but their trip was cancelled after a storm on Sunday disrupted landings at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, forcing flights to be rerouted to Johannesburg.

During her visit, MEC Masina commended the school’s resilience and commitment to education, calling it “a model of determination and success.”

The principal expressed pride in the school’s achievements and revealed plans to introduce a transformative learning model offering two pathways — academic and vocational — to cater to learners’ diverse strengths and career ambitions.

“Makhosana Manzini High is a school of excellence,” he said. “We aim to continue shaping learners who are ready for the future — whether in universities, workplaces, or their communities.”
