Police in Calcutta have launched an investigation following a fatal shooting at a local tavern on Friday night, 17 October 2025.

According to police, officers responded to a report at around 22:00 and arrived to find a man and a woman lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds. Sadly, the 46-year-old man was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

It is believed that the victims, who were reportedly in a relationship, were together at the tavern when unknown armed suspects allegedly opened fire and fled immediately after the shooting.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol with a visible serial number at the scene. The firearm has since been seized for further investigation.

The motive behind the shooting is not yet known. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in identifying or tracing the suspects to contact Lieutenant Colonel Sikhumbuzo Ceko on 082 922 9902, or to call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
