The Department of Education, in partnership with the Moral Regeneration Movement, held a Provincial Prayer Session on Thursday, 16 October 2025, at Graceland Hotel in Secunda, within the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality.

The event was dedicated to the Class of 2025 as learners prepare to sit for their final examinations. The prayer gathering sought to instil hope, strengthen faith, and unite communities in support of learners during this critical stage of their academic journey.

MEC for Education, Ms Lindi Masina, urged faith-based communities across Mpumalanga to keep learners in their prayers. “Today, we gather in prayer, not in fear, but in faith. We stand united in spirit to seek divine favour and protection for the Class of 2025 as they prepare to begin their National Senior Certificate examinations in just five days,” she said.

Quoting scripture, MEC Masina encouraged learners to remain strong and courageous: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Honouring Teachers

The session also coincided with Teachers’ Month, providing an opportunity to recognise the dedication of educators. Four teachers from Mpumalanga were honoured at the National Teaching Awards, with Mr Thulani Sibiya from the Ehlanzeni District receiving the title of Best Teacher in South Africa.

“Teachers are the true custodians of hope, the architects of knowledge, the reservoirs of dreams, and the builders of our nation’s future,” said MEC Masina. She praised Mr Sibiya’s achievement as a testament to dedication and humility, describing him as a source of pride for the province.

Learners Encouraged to Stay Focused

With 69,980 candidates registered to write this year’s examinations, the MEC assured parents and communities that all systems are in place to ensure a credible and secure exam process. Invigilators have been trained, centres audited, and security reinforced to maintain Mpumalanga’s record of integrity over the past 14 years.

To learners, MEC Masina offered words of encouragement: “You are ready. You are capable. You are destined for greatness. Stay focused. Believe in yourself. Honour your teachers and your parents by giving your very best.”

The session ended with a collective prayer, uniting communities, teachers, parents, and faith leaders in support of the province’s learners.
