DJ Guski: Mkhuhlu’s rising star in music and design.
Born on 3 March 1994 in Malelane and raised in Mkhuhlu, Nyiko “DJ Guski” Nkuna is a name steadily rising in both the entertainment and creative industries. Affectionately nicknamed “Master KG” by locals due to his striking resemblance to the famous music producer, Guski has crafted a journey fuelled by passion, resilience and community spirit.
He began his schooling at Bhejani Primary School in 2000 before moving on to Chayaza Secondary School, where he matriculated in 2011. Although he was initially unable to secure space at the University of Limpopo, he refused to let that setback dim his ambitions. Instead, he turned to what he loved most — music and creativity.
In 2012, after receiving his first computer, he began producing DJ mixes and soon discovered Adobe Photoshop. This opened the door to graphic design, and he quickly made a name for himself by designing flyers for local events. This marked his official entrance into the entertainment and creative sector.
Determined to further his education, Guski enrolled at UNISA to study Safety Management before transferring to the Vaal University of Technology, where he graduated in 2018. While at VUT, he joined the DJ Society and worked as both a DJ and a graphic designer for campus events — an experience he says boosted his confidence and helped him build valuable industry connections.
By 2014, he was performing full-time as a DJ around Mkhuhlu while also designing branding material for small businesses. His entrepreneurial journey continued in 2015 with the launch of his own clothing brand, Guski, which started with caps and later expanded to include T-shirts and jerseys. After completing his studies, he returned home and founded MK Printing, investing in his own printing equipment to produce posters, branded clothing and promotional material. The business remains active and continues to support local brands and events.
Drawing from his experience in planning and supporting events, he eventually established GM Entertainment, under which he launched Mkhuhlu Comes Alive – Daytime Vibe. The first event took place on 31 December 2024. The latest edition, held on 4 October 2025, was a major success, drawing over 1,000 attendees, showcasing more than 30 local acts and hosting over 10 vendors, giving young talents and entrepreneurs a platform to shine.
Alongside his creative ventures, Guski has also built a professional career. He has worked as a Construction Health and Safety Officer for the past five years, applying his Safety Management training to create safer workplaces.
Passionate about music, design, safety and community development, DJ Guski continues to balance his career with his mission to uplift others.
With his growing influence and unwavering commitment to community empowerment, Nyiko “DJ Guski” Nkuna is proving that talent paired with determination can turn a dream into a movement.
