Mpumalanga police are investigating a cash-in-transit robbery that occurred in the White River central business district on Monday, 29 September 2025.
According to preliminary information, cash-in-transit guards were collecting cash at a business premises when they were allegedly accosted by armed suspects just outside the premises. One of the suspects reportedly pointed a firearm at the guard and demanded a money box containing an undisclosed amount of cash. The guard complied and fled the scene on foot.
The suspects then fired several shots at the armoured vehicle and in the direction of the fleeing guard before making off with the money box.
During the incident, a female bystander was struck by a stray bullet and sustained injuries. She was immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Specialised units, including the Detective Branch, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), the Crime Intelligence Unit, and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), attended the scene and investigations are underway.
The police appeal to anyone with information that may assist in tracing the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Information may also be shared via the MySAPS App. All information will be treated as confidential.
