The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) has announced the launch of a free online platform to support educators across the country.
The initiative is aimed at teachers and others in the education sector who are experiencing anxiety, burnout, or emotional stress. SADAG says the demand for psychological support among educators has been steadily increasing.
A recent study conducted by Stellenbosch University revealed that half of the 1,500 teachers surveyed are considering leaving the profession within the next decade. The main reasons cited were emotional exhaustion, administrative overload, and lack of institutional support.
SADAG’s Project Manager in Education, Roshni Parbhoo-Seetha, stressed that supporting educators is vital for the development of stronger schools and learners.
The new support group will officially launch online at the start of next month, with meetings scheduled to take place on the first Wednesday of every month.
