Police seized R2 million in illicit substances, including 40 bales of dagga and bottles of Benylin with codeine, during a drug bust in Thabazimbi
Two foreign nationals have been arrested in Thabazimbi after Limpopo police intercepted a truck carrying R2 million worth of dagga and prescription medicines.

The suspects, identified as Cuthbert Derera (30) and Wishborn Fufa (39), appeared in the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of dagga and contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965. Their case has been postponed to 22 September for a formal bail application.
Police confirmed that the pair were arrested on Saturday, 13 September, following a tip-off. A joint operation involving Northam SAPS, Thabazimbi SAPS and Zimbi Security successfully stopped the truck on the R510 road to Lephalale.
“During a search, officers found 40 bales of dagga with a street value of R1.5 million, along with assorted bottles of Benylin with codeine and Astra pain relievers valued at R500,000. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at R2 million,” said provincial spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The suspects were unable to provide proof of the origin of the goods, which are believed to have been destined for the Groblersbrug Border, outside the Waterberg District.
Limpopo’s police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers for their “diligence and determination” in intercepting the smugglers.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
