Toyota Recalls Hino 700 Trucks Over Fuel Pump Fault

Toyota South Africa has announced the recall of its Hino 700 series trucks, sold between
December 2024 and 30 June 2025, due to a potential fuel pump defect.

According to the National Consumer Commission (NCC), the recall was prompted by
concerns over the fuel pump housing. “The recall is due to a fuel pump housing that
underwent an inappropriate surface treatment process during production. Cracks may develop
when repeated high load is applied to the supply pump, which could result in a fuel leak. The
Hino 700 series trucks were sold nationwide,” explained the NCC’s spokesperson, Phetho
Ntaba, on Thursday.

Owners of the affected trucks are urged to take their vehicles to any Toyota dealership for
free inspections and necessary replacements.

“Your safety comes first when it comes to any product safety recall in South Africa,” Ntaba
emphasised. She further noted that manufacturers are legally obliged, under the Consumer
Protection Act, to ensure that their products are safe and free from defects.
