Three people lost their lives on Saturday night, 6 September 2025, following a car crash on the N4 toll road between Karino and Valencia interchange.

The accident occurred when a Volkswagen Polo collided with the rear of a light delivery vehicle (LDV). The sedan overturned after the impact, flinging three occupants – two men and a woman from the car. All three were declared dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the Polo sustained serious injuries and were stabilised by paramedics before being taken to medical facilities in Mbombela. No injuries were reported in the LDV.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. Police have opened three cases of culpable homicide as investigations continue.
