On 11 May 2025, a 29-year-old man was arrested in Ermelo during Operation Vala Umgodi for possession and suspected sale of dagga. Members of the Proactive and Combat team conducted stop-and-search operations in the area, leading to the suspect’s apprehension after he was found with dagga in his possession.
The suspect faces charges of illegal possession and distribution of dagga and is expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 12 May 2025.
Operation Vala Umgodi is a nationwide initiative by the South African Police Service (SAPS) aimed at combating illegal mining and associated criminal activities.
