Three family members have been arrested and remain in custody for the murder of 80-year-old businessman and former Middelburg policeman, George Willis.

Willis was shot and killed at his home in Schoemansdal, Mpumalanga, around 08:40 on 27 April 2025, according to Lowvelder.

The suspects are his wife, Nomvula Lucy Willis (75), his son, George Kenedy Willis (55), and his grandson, Kenny Rudolph Willis (29). All three appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on 29 April. Their bail hearing is set for 6 May.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the son had arrived at his parents’ home and was allegedly attacked by two men in balaclavas. He was tied up with a cable while the men entered the house and shot George Willis at close range. They then fled in the son’s Mercedes-Benz.

A murder case was opened, and after a detailed investigation, police arrested the three family members.

Mdhluli added that more arrests could still follow as the investigation continues.
