GSDM Mourns Loss of DA Councillor Victor Dudley Days After EFF’s Ndebele
The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) is in mourning following the untimely passing of Councillor Victor Dudley, a 39-year-old full-time Democratic Alliance (DA) representative. His death comes as a second devastating blow to the municipality, occurring just days after the passing of another councillor, Jabulile Ndebele of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Councillor Dudley had served on the GSDM Council since November 2021 and was known for his dedication to public service and his firm commitment to the communities he served. He played an active role in several key committees within the municipality, including the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and the Infrastructure Committee.
GSDM Speaker Busisiwe Sekhonde expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the council, describing Dudley as a hard-working and principled leader who left a positive impact on everyone he worked with.
“We are devastated by the sudden loss of Councillor Dudley. He was a dedicated public servant, known for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to transparency and accountability in government,” said Sekhonde.
“He contributed significantly to the oversight functions of the municipality, and his insights and leadership in infrastructure development will be sorely missed. This is a difficult time for all of us at GSDM, especially coming so soon after the loss of Councillor Jabulile Ndebele,” she added.
Dudley’s passing has left a noticeable void in the political landscape of Gert Sibande, particularly as both he and Ndebele were deeply involved in council activities and passionate about community development.
Condolences have poured in from across the political spectrum, with colleagues, friends, and members of the community remembering Dudley as a kind-hearted, humble, and committed public servant.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Democratic Alliance, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Sekhonde.
The GSDM Council has committed to honoring both Councillor Dudley and Councillor Ndebele’s legacies by continuing the work they were so passionate about—serving the people of the district with dedication and integrity.
