Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of an unidentified man was discovered with gunshot wounds near a river in Vaalbank on March 29.

The victim, believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40, was found by passers-by at approximately 11:20 a.m. on a gravel road between Mmakometsane and Kameelrivier.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the body was discovered in a public area near the river’s edge. Paramedics were called to the scene but declared the man dead upon arrival. He was wearing long grey jeans and a short-sleeved black T-shirt.

Although the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, Ndubane noted that preliminary investigations revealed visible injuries on the victim’s body. Spent cartridges were also found at the scene, suggesting that the man may have been shot.

The motive for the killing is still unknown, and authorities have not yet made any arrests. Police, however, assured the public that they are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.

As part of their investigation, the police are appealing for any assistance in identifying the deceased and gathering information about the incident. “All information will be treated confidentially, and callers may choose to remain anonymous,” said Ndubane.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have urged the public to support their efforts to solve the case and provide closure to the victim’s family.
