Mpumalanga Department of Education head, Lucy Moyane, and other officials implicated in the questionable expenditure of over R2 million on a security guardhouse and fencing have yet to face any consequences. This comes despite a scathing report recommending disciplinary action against them for misleading the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).

The watchdog found that Moyane had signed off on a dubious report presented to lawmakers, seemingly to obscure financial mismanagement within the department. Under her leadership, the department spent R1,192,078 on constructing a guardhouse and an additional R1 million on fencing—expenditures that have raised serious concerns.

While the report has called for accountability, there has been no action taken against Moyane or the implicated officials. The lack of immediate consequences has sparked criticism, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in public spending.
