A 12-year-old boy was attacked and robbed while cycling home through Lion’s Park in Kanonkop on February 14.

According to his mother, the incident happened shortly after 13:00 when a tall, thin man dressed in black and barefoot approached him. The attacker punched the boy in the face, causing his hat to fall off. When the boy got off his bicycle to retrieve it, the man grabbed the bike and attempted to flee.

Determined not to lose his bicycle, the boy chased after the attacker and managed to push him off. He quickly reclaimed his bike and rode home to alert his mother.

The boy suffered swelling and bruising to his face and eye but is otherwise unharmed. His mother said the incident has made him more cautious and aware of his surroundings.

His father took to a community watch group, urging residents to be vigilant and report any sightings of the attacker.

A case has been opened with the police, but the suspect remains at large. Authorities are urging the community to stay alert.
