Experienced sport administrator Linda Zwane has been re-elected as president of the Mpumalanga Sport Confederation (MSC) for another four-year term.
Following his re-election this past weekend at Middelburg Regional Library, Zwane aims to use his renewed mandate to elevate sport development and ensure Mpumalanga athletes excel on national and international stages.
“I am humbled by the confidence of MSC members. I do not take their support for granted. This is a sign of trust in the work I have been doing,” Zwane said.
With several high-profile tournaments on the horizon, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Rugby World Cup, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), and the 2027 Cricket World Cup, MSC wants to ensure the province is well represented in national teams—provided athletes qualify.
“For us, the priority is athlete support so that we can make a meaningful contribution to the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics target. We also want to ensure that federations receive the necessary backing for their developmental programmes,” said the MSC president.
MSC enjoys strong support from the provincial government. Speaking at the Congress, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Leah Mabuza reaffirmed the department’s commitment to working with Zwane and his committee.
“The Department is responsible for the development of sport throughout the province, and our work is made much easier by the presence of formidable structures such as the Mpumalanga Sport Confederation. We extend our profound thanks to all affiliates who play a key role in delivering sport programmes in the province,” said Mabuza.
Zwane’s involvement in sport dates back to his playing days with Botleng Classic FC. He later ventured into coaching before transitioning into administration in 1996. Over the years, he has held various leadership roles, including vice-president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), president of SAFA Nkangala, president and secretary of the Victor Khanye Local Football Association, and board member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee.
