ANC Leader Under Investigation for Sjambok Attack

The Mpumalanga SAPS is investigating a common assault case against an ANC branch secretary in Hazyview after he allegedly attacked an ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) leader with a sjambok on February 5.

According to the victim, the suspect ordered her not to enter a school premises where she was attending a league meeting. When she questioned his actions, he allegedly retrieved a sjambok from his car and attempted to whip her, striking her vehicle as she fled the scene.

The victim reported the incident to Hazyview Police Station. Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed that a case was opened and the suspect provided a warning statement. The prosecutor will decide on further action.

The Ehlanzeni ANC secretary, Folas Sibuyi, confirmed receiving a formal complaint and stated that the party is committed to fighting gender-based violence and will conduct an internal investigation.
