An Acornhoek woman has gone into hiding, fearing for her safety after her ex-boyfriend was granted R1 000 bail in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the victim, was arrested on February 10 and charged with assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm (GBH). The case was postponed to March 3 for further investigations.
The victim had opened a case against him on January 15, alleging that he slapped her and broke her arm with a spade. After seeking medical attention, she returned to the police station, where officers accompanied her to his residence, but he had already fled.
The suspect remained on the run until his father took him to the police station on February 10, leading to his arrest.
Fearing retaliation, the woman has since gone into hiding, saying, “I fear he will harm me if he finds me.”
The police continue to investigate the case.
