Two Arrested in Mpumalanga for Drugs and Illicit Cigarettes

Two men, including a 24-year-old Nigerian national, are set to appear in the Sabie and Graskop Magistrate’s Courts on January 6 after being arrested in separate incidents during Operation Vala Umgodi.

Drug Bust in Sabie

Police patrolling the Sabie area on January 3 noticed a suspicious man carrying a bag.

“Upon stopping and searching him, officers found suspected drugs, including Cat, heroin, and crystal meth, along with an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, provincial police spokesperson.

The drugs and cash were confiscated, and the man was charged with drug possession. He will appear in the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on January 6.

Illicit Cigarettes in Graskop

In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested in Graskop on January 2 after police discovered illicit cigarettes worth R26,000 in his spaza shop.

The cigarettes were seized for further investigation, and the man faces charges related to the possession and sale of illicit goods. He is scheduled to appear in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court on January 6.

Police Commitment to Crime Prevention

These arrests form part of Operation Vala Umgodi, aimed at combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the province. Authorities continue to encourage communities to report suspicious activities.
