Magesi FC Set to Challenge Carling All-Stars

Magesi FC, under the guidance of Clinton Larsen, can become the first team to defeat the Carling All Stars XI when they clash in an exhibition match at Orlando Stadium on December 14 at 3:30 PM.

The All Stars XI, comprised of fan-voted players from top clubs, secured a 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC in January during their debut match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Magesi FC now aims to change that narrative.

Giant-Killers Ready for Battle

Magesi earned their place in this high-profile fixture by claiming the 2024 Carling Black Label Knockout title, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in a stunning final at the Free State Stadium. This victory cemented their reputation as giant killers, and they’ll look to replicate that magic against the All-Stars XI.

The All-Stars squad, selected by supporters, features a mix of seasoned professionals and rising stars. Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez returns to the starting XI, alongside Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) standout Jabulani Mokoena.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Bathusi Aubaas will bring strength to the midfield, while Orlando Pirates’ Sipho Chaine will guard the goal. The starting XI also includes Gaston Sirino of Chiefs and DDC talents like Pirates’ Mbokazi Mbekezeli, Chiefs’ Aden McCarthy, and Sundowns’ Gomolemo Kekana.

The All-Stars bench is equally formidable, featuring players such as Monnapule Saleng, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Thembinkosi Lorch from Pirates, as well as Reeve Frosler and Mfundo Vilakazi from Chiefs. Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, also fan-selected, will lead the All-Stars XI.

Uphill Task for Magesi

Facing the All-Stars XI will be a formidable challenge for Magesi FC. However, Larsen’s side has proven their ability to rise to the occasion. Earlier in the season, Magesi stunned Orlando Pirates with a thrilling 3-2 victory in the Carling Knockout last 16, breaking the Buccaneers’ unbeaten streak.

Their triumph over Sundowns in the final showcased their resilience and capability to upset even the strongest opponents.

Seeking Redemption

Despite their cup success, Magesi FC has struggled in the Betway Premiership, losing their last three matches. The exhibition match against the All Stars offers a chance for them to regain confidence and momentum ahead of their league fixture against Orlando Pirates on December 29.

For Larsen and his team, a victory at Orlando Stadium could be the spark they need to get their season back on track and solidify their reputation as giant slayers. Fans can expect an electrifying showdown as Magesi FC faces the star-studded All Stars XI in what promises to be a memorable encounter.
