“Two Ethiopian Nationals Arrested in Mpumalanga Bust Involving Illicit Goods and EMS-Marked Vehicle”

Two Ethiopian nationals, aged 27 and 47, were apprehended by Mpumalanga police on November 25 after a bust in Rocky Drift uncovered illicit goods, a large sum of cash, and three vehicles, including one disguised as an ambulance.

Details of the Bust

  • Police discovered:
    • An EMS-marked vehicle locked inside a garage.
    • A second vehicle with false registration plates.
    • Illicit cigarettes, clothing items, bleaching cream, and other contraband.
    • An undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigation Background

  • The operation stemmed from a three-month investigation by the Pienaar police.
  • All confiscated items, including the vehicles, have been handed over to the Hawks for further investigation.

Statement from Authorities

Brigadier Donald Mdhluli stated that the seized items would form part of an ongoing inquiry into the suspects’ activities. The arrests highlight continued efforts to combat organized crime and the smuggling of illicit goods in the region.
