November 7, 2024Taxi Association Leader Justice Madalane Shot Dead

In a tragic event that has sent shockwaves through the Bushbuckridge community, Justice Dusty Madalane, the national president of the Federated Long and Local Distance Taxi Association (FELLDTA), was fatally shot at his business premises in Dwarsloop, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, today.
Madalane, also a board member and treasurer of Bushbuckridge Community Radio, was widely respected for his dedication to the community and his commitment to the radio station. Known for his relentless support, he often contributed his own resources to ensure the station’s growth and success.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi confirmed that Madalane was shot multiple times at his business premises. His son rushed him to Mapulaneng Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Nkosi added that police arrived at the hospital shortly afterward but were too late to interview him.
“The police are investigating the murder. We have registered a murder docket, and investigations are ongoing. While we don’t know the motive for this murder, it will be a key focus of our investigation,” Nkosi said.
FELLDTA is affiliated with the National Taxi Alliance (NTA), and the news of Madalane’s passing has deeply impacted the organisation. Frans Kgasago, NTA’s national co-ordinator, expressed devastation over the loss. “He was a very good leader who truly understood the taxi industry,” Kgasago said. “It was only recently that I was here for the funeral of his son, who died in a road accident. We are extremely devastated and shocked to hear of Justice’s passing.”
Meanwhile, Radio Bushbuckridge, where Madalane served with passion and dedication, has been left reeling. Station manager Mama Carol Kintu struggled to put her feelings into words, describing Madalane as a man who loved the station wholeheartedly. “He was a great man who would go as far as using his own resources to ensure the success of the station. I am speechless about what has happened and extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues,” said Kintu.
The sense of loss extends beyond the radio station. Mulawu Mathye, the marketing executive for Radio Bushbuckridge, described Madalane as more than just a colleague. “He was a very personal friend who had become like a brother to me. He has left a massive void, and I’m still struggling to come to terms with the reality of his passing,” Mathye said.
Madalane’s commitment to the community was evident in his recent pledge to donate R20,000 to Radio Bushbuckridge at a fundraising gala held at Thulamahashe Stadium, attended by health MEC Sasekani Manzini and Bushbuckridge Mayor Lydia Moroane. Mathye, who organised the event, recalled the promise with a heavy heart, noting how Madalane’s contributions went beyond financial support, embodying a spirit of generosity and service to his community.
Madalane’s death is a profound loss to Bushbuckridge, where he played a pivotal role not only in the taxi industry but also in local media and community initiatives. His influence and dedication have left an indelible mark on those who knew him, with many now left to mourn a leader who gave tirelessly to his community.
As investigations continue, the community and his colleagues remember him as a generous, committed, and kind-hearted leader whose legacy will be felt for years to come.
