Strong Winds Destroy Houses in Acornhoek

A powerful storm swept through Acornhoek on Sunday afternoon, October 27, causing significant damage in the villages of Buffelshoek, Baromeng, Chochocho, and Tsakani under the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality in Mpumalanga. The storm brought strong winds that ripped the roofs off several houses, shattered windows, and left nearly 80% of the municipality without electricity.

Residents have come together to assist those affected, with locals in Buffelshoek helping to gather damaged roofing materials scattered across neighbouring yards. Efforts are underway to support families whose homes have been severely impacted, as the community works to recover from the extensive damage.

The storm has highlighted the vulnerability of local infrastructure to extreme weather events, prompting concerns about the need for stronger community preparedness and support mechanisms in the face of such natural disasters.
