A field ranger was seriously injured after being attacked by a buffalo at Kruger National Park on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. The incident occurred near the Sabie River in the Pretoriuskop Section during a routine patrol.
The ranger and a colleague were walking when the buffalo unexpectedly charged from behind a thicket. In a critical response, the injured ranger grappled with the buffalo’s horns until his partner was able to neutralize the threat with gunfire.
Following the attack, emergency procedures were swiftly enacted. The injured ranger was stabilized on-site by a local doctor before being airlifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment. His current condition is under close medical observation.
