“SASSA Outreach Brings Vital Services to Elandshoek Community”

"Empowering Elandshoek: SASSA and Partners Bring Essential Services Closer to Home"

Today, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga, in collaboration with several government departments and key stakeholders, is set to deliver crucial services to the Elandshoek community. Situated on the outskirts of Mbombela along the N4, this initiative forms part of SASSA’s Integrated Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP), aimed at enhancing accessibility to social grant services.

The outreach programme is particularly focused on bridging the gap for communities like Elandshoek, where access to essential services such as SASSA’s social grants is limited. Many residents of Elandshoek, an informal settlement, face significant challenges in accessing the nearest SASSA office in Nelspruit, located 77 kilometres away. This effort seeks to alleviate these difficulties by bringing services directly to the community.

According to SASSA officials, a significant portion of the Elandshoek community relies on social grants for their livelihoods. This includes not only South African citizens but also foreigners from neighboring countries like Mozambique and Eswatini, alongside naturalized citizens. Many community members also sustain themselves through seasonal work in local agricultural farms.

In addition to SASSA’s services, which include grant applications, inquiries about the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) COVID-19 grant, and assistance with changing payment methods, the outreach programme will feature participation from various government entities. The Departments of Home Affairs, Health, and Social Development, as well as the local municipality, will be present to extend their services alongside SASSA.

The programme aims not only to provide immediate assistance but also to empower the community by educating them about their rights and entitlements concerning social grants. This initiative underscores the importance of access and equal opportunity as fundamental human rights enshrined in South Africa’s Constitution.

Furthermore, the outreach will see participation from additional stakeholders such as the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), South African Police Service (SAPS), and local banking institutions, enhancing the range of services available to the community.

For more information on the services provided during today’s outreach programme, individuals are encouraged to contact the toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 during working hours or send a WhatsApp message to 082 046 8553.

This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring that all members of the Elandshoek community have access to the essential services and support they need to thrive.
