May 28, 2024SA U15 National Teams Arrive in Zanzibar Ahead of CAF African Schools Championships
20 May 2024 – The South African U15 National Teams arrived in Zanzibar on Monday morning in anticipation of their participation in the CAF African Schools Championships, marking the third consecutive year of their involvement in this prestigious event.
The Championships, scheduled to take place from 21 to 24 May 2024, will see both the South African girls’ and boys’ national teams striving for victory and aiming to bring home the coveted trophies. Their qualification for the tournament follows their triumph in both the girls’ and boys’ COSAFA Schools Championships held in Zimbabwe in December 2023.
Ntombifuthi Khumalo, Head Coach of the girls’ national team, expressed her enthusiasm and confidence in the team’s potential. “I believe we have a world-class group of players who can dominate youth football on the continent. We have had a great week of training and believe that we will showcase the quality of football we have in South Africa,” Khumalo stated. She highlighted the team’s continuous improvement and expressed optimism about their chances in the Championships, as well as the potential to build a strong squad for the future U17 Women’s National Team.
The U15 Girls squad includes Asanda Ziqubu, Andiswa Zuma, Thando Mokgabudi, Siphumelele Zibula, Alwande Mbatha, Lethuthando Mthembu, Akhona Simamane, Nomfundo Nzuza, Londiwe Zikalala, Katlego Malebane, Rethabile Molefe, Khwezi Khoza, Okuhle Sithole, and Mpumelelo Mazibuko.
The U15 Boys squad features Sabrie Losper, Aidan February, Hayden Booysen, Bomibethu Mangcaka, Callen Robinson, Joshua Langeveldt, Inganathi Simama, Akhanani Hlahatsi, Ishaam Tilling, Jordan Hope, Rhys Ferguson, Someleze Msweli, Connor Fransman, Reece Filande, Cayden Cole Martins, Tristen O’Malley, and Jordan Smith.
Both teams are eager to compete and demonstrate their skills on the continental stage, carrying the hopes and pride of South Africa with them. The Championships promise to be a thrilling display of young talent and a significant opportunity for the players to gain invaluable experience.
