In a disturbing incident shrouded in allegations of witchcraft, a mother in MhlabaCross,
Limpopo, exhumed her child’s coffin and threw the remains into a neighbour’s yard. The
Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed the
bizarre event.
According to sources, after the child’s mysterious death, the distraught mother sought
guidance from either a sangoma or a prophet. She was allegedly informed that her
neighbour had bewitched the child, leading to the tragic loss.
Consumed by anger and convinced of the neighbour’s involvement in witchcraft, the
mother took matters into her own hands. She reportedly exhumed the child’s body,
removed it from the coffin, and hurled both the remains and the coffin into the
neighbour’s yard.
“She threw the body together with the coffin to her neighbour’s yard,” a source revealed.
“The mother told her neighbour to eat the child’s body as she was the one who had
killed her via witchcraft.”
The incident, which occurred under the jurisdiction of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality,
prompted the involvement of law enforcement and forensic teams. The child’s mother
was subsequently arrested.
“This serves to confirm that the 37-year-old is charged with the violation of a grave and
pointing someone as a witch,” Ledwaba stated, adding that the suspect appeared
before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on March 11 and was released on bail.
