Ehlanzeni TVET partners to equip youth with 4IR skills

Ehlanzeni TVET College has joined forces with the Media, Information and Communication
Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICTSETA) and Forge Academy to
provide training in Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies for young people in
Mpumalanga.

The college signed a memorandum of understanding with MICTSETA in November 2022 to
collaborate on upskilling initiatives. MICTSETA then brought in Forge Academy, announcing
Ehlanzeni TVET as one of its partner institutions.

In October 2023, the Mlumati campus 4IR Centre launched a 5-month learnership
programme for 25 students from the Nkomazi region. The comprehensive curriculum
covered IT fundamentals, 5G, digital business creation, robotics, 3D printing,
virtual/augmented reality, artificial intelligence and Amazon Web Services.

“The goal is to provide a basic understanding of 4IR technology and skills to apply solutions
in real-world situations,” said a college representative. “It also encourages creativity in using
4IR to address societal issues.”

The learnership combined theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on training to ensure
participants gained a thorough grasp of cutting-edge technologies.

Upon completing the programme, the students participated in a graduation ceremony and
hackathon where they presented cooperative digital business ideas and solutions, with some
receiving prizes.

The partnership between Ehlanzeni TVET, MICTSETA and Forge Academy aims to position
the college as “a world-class institution that offers 4IR solutions in the Ehlanzeni region” by
tapping into critical stakeholder collaborations.
