Mpumalanga Launches EPWP Cleaning Campaign

MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Ms Sasekani Manzini, successfully launched the
Expanded Letsema EPWP and Cleaning Campaign at Themba Regional Hospital in
Kabokweni, just outside White River, under the Ehlanzeni District Municipality on 14 March

The purpose of this program is to provide temporary employment and income relief
to unemployed individuals, particularly youth from impoverished backgrounds while
assisting the Department of Infrastructure Development and Technical Services in
addressing minor maintenance and auxiliary matters to ensure that health facilities are
safe, clean, and well-maintained, enabling the continuation of adequate healthcare
services and an equitable healthcare delivery system

During the media briefing, MEC Manzini stated that 63 EPWP participants commenced
their duties on October 2, 2023, carrying out tasks such as grass cutting, tree trimming,
painting worn walls, replacing doors and handles, changing light bulbs, unblocking
drainages, and providing welding skills across the province’s facilities. She expressed
satisfaction with their work, stating that they are adding value to service delivery. The
participants will further enhance their skills through training at Forek Institute of Tech,
with the Department aiming to assist them in becoming artisans and tradespeople,
benefiting the healthcare facilities.
