A fatal car accident involving a homeless man and a high-ranking ANC member in the
Madibeng Local Municipality has sparked outrage and demands for accountability. The
incident occurred earlier this week when the ANC member, who holds a significant position
in the mayoral committee, was allegedly on her way to a political meeting. According to
reports, the homeless man was trying to cross the road when he was struck by the mayoral
committee member’s Nissan Magnite, resulting in his death on the scene.
Despite the gravity of the accident, the regional leader has not been charged, prompting
backlash from opposition parties in the council. Stan Komape, the EFF caucus leader in the
Madibeng municipal council, expressed frustration over the lack of action taken against the
ANC member. “We have met with the police and we are demanding answers about why this
person is not charged,” Komape stated.
The EFF claims to have traced the family of the deceased homeless man and plans to visit
them on Thursday morning. The incident has shed light on the contentious relationship
between the ruling party and opposition groups within the municipality, as calls for
transparency and equal treatment under the law intensify.
