A female doctor in Middleburg, South Africa was arrested this past weekend for
allegedly stealing medication and medical equipment from the hospital where she
works.

According to a media statement from the office of the Provincial Commissioner, the 31-
year-old doctor was caught red-handed on Friday, March 1 when security personnel
searched her vehicle as she was leaving the government hospital at around 4:45 pm.
They found numerous medications and medical equipment concealed in the trunk of her
car, valued at an estimated R50,000.

When questioned, the doctor could not provide any explanation as to why she had
government property in her possession. Police were called to the scene and promptly
arrested the doctor for theft.

She spent the weekend in jail and is expected to appear in the Middleburg Magistrate’s
Court on Monday, March 4 to face charges.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela
commended the security officer who apprehended the doctor, stating “The security
officer performed duties without fear or favour.”

This shocking case of a trusted medical professional allegedly stealing from the very
hospital she works at shows no one is above the law. The public awaits the court
