Banyana Banyana set for high-stakes olympic qualifier in Mbombela

The South African women’s national football team, Banyana Banyana, are gearing up
for a decisive Olympic qualifying match against Tanzania on Tuesday night at the
Mbombela Stadium.

Banyana came into the game with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Dar es
Salaam last week. A draw or win of any kind in the second leg will seal their qualification
for the Olympics in Tokyo.

The match is expected to attract thousands of passionate local fans, as well as sports
tourists from across South Africa and beyond. The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks
Agency (MTPA) has been preparing extensively for the influx of visitors.

“We are ready to give a warm welcome to all sports tourists coming to support Banyana
Banyana,” said MTPA senior manager Simphiwe Shungube. “This event will showcase
our province’s scenic beauty and the vibrancy of our local culture.”

Shungube emphasized that ensuring the safety and comfort of visiting spectators is the
MTPA’s top priority. The match will also deliver an economic boost to the region,
creating jobs for accommodation providers, vendors and more.

Kick-off is at 7:30 PM and fans are advised to arrive early. With triumph looming, the
stadium will undoubtedly be filled with noise and colour as Banyana stands on the cusp
of achieving its Olympic dream.
