The latest quarterly labour force survey from Statistics South Africa indicates a positive
job outlook for Mpumalanga province. According to the data released on Tuesday,
Mpumalanga recorded a net increase of around 48,000 jobs in the third quarter of 2023.
This job growth was driven primarily by the finance, mining and private household
sectors. Mpumalanga saw the highest employment levels of any province in the October
to December 2023 period. On an industry basis, the province ranked second highest in
job creation for trade, mining and households. It ranked third best in job growth for the
finance and utilities sectors.
Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane welcomed the news, stating job creation will remain
a top priority for her administration. Despite economic challenges, she says measures
announced in her 2022 State of the Province Address to boost jobs, especially for
youth, are paying off.
“We remain committed to interventions like the Premier’s Youth Development Fund,
which will go a long way to addressing high unemployment in our province,” the Premier
said.
Mpumalanga saw 48,000 new jobs added in the third quarter of 2023, the highest level
on record. The Premier credited economic policies by her administration for the job
gains in mining, finance and other key sectors.
