Johan le Roux, a farmer from Mpumalanga, defied all odds after being shot multiple times and left for dead by four assailants. Despite his critical injuries, including a broken right arm, Le Roux managed to free himself from his captors and walked a surprising 2km to seek help.

The harrowing ordeal unfolded Sunday afternoon as Le Roux was mowing his lawn. Suddenly, four men emerged from behind a rubber tree near the fence separating his property from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Without warning, they opened fire on Le Roux, striking him multiple times.

“They began shooting at Le Roux, who was hit multiple times,” said Frank Swanepoel, a representative from Hi-Tech White River, who was reportedly among the first to respond to the incident. “They then dragged him to the house, tied him up and stole several items from the house, which was then loaded into Le Roux’s bakkie, a silver Ford Ranger, in which they fled.”

Despite the brutal attack and his critical injuries, Le Roux refused to give up. After the assailants had fled, he mustered the strength to untie himself and begin the long and arduous journey to find help. With his right arm broken and his body riddled with bullet wounds, he walked 2km to the compound on his farm, where he was able to raise the alarm.

“They had seen the call for help on a local WhatsApp group, and when they arrived at the compound, they drove Le Roux back to the house,” Swanepoel said, recounting the actions of the Hi-Tech White River team.

Le Roux’s incredible survival story has captured the hearts and minds of the local community and beyond. His determination to live, even in the face of such adversity, serves as a testament to the indomitable human spirit.
