Robbers Nabbed After Post Office Heist

Police in Mpumalanga arrested four robbery suspects aged 28-48 following a post office robbery in Wakkerstroom on Friday morning. The swift response and collaboration between police and rural safety groups led to the successful arrests.

The incident occurred around 9:10 AM when three armed suspects stormed the post office during social grant payments. They held employees at gunpoint and forced them to open the cash safe before robbing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police were alerted and notified rural safety groups who spotted the suspects’ gateway vehicle. After stopping the car, police found four occupants along with a firearm with erased serial numbers and the stolen cash. A second suspected getaway vehicle was found abandoned in Wakkerstroom.

The four suspects were arrested and charged with business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The vehicles and firearms were confiscated.

Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela praised the coordinated response between police and safety groups that led to the quick arrests. She warned criminals that Mpumalanga would not tolerate criminal activities.

The suspects will appear in the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court on Monday. Police are continuing investigations into the robbery.
